About The Chalk Freehouse in Chelsea

Welcome to The Chalk Freehouse in Chelsea, London, by the Tom Kerridge group - a beautifully restored Victorian pub just off the iconic Kings Road. The Chalk is more than a pub, it’s a place where great food, expertly crafted drinks, and a vibrant Chelsea atmosphere come together.

Led by Head Chef Tom De Keyser, who spent over a decade working alongside Tom Kerridge, The Chalk delivers a dining experience rooted in British tradition with a modern flair. Tom previously headed the kitchens at The Hand & Flowers in Marlow – the world’s first two-Michelin-starred pub – and The Coach, another Michelin-starred Kerridge establishment. His vision for The Chalk is simple: serve seasonal, ingredient-led food that celebrates flavour and quality.

All in the name

The name “Chalk” is a nod to Chelsea’s rich heritage. Derived from the Anglo-Saxon Caelichyth – meaning “chalk wharf” – Chelsea was once a riverside hub for unloading chalk and limestone along the Thames. Our pub pays tribute to this history while embracing the creativity and energy of modern London.

Whether you’re stopping by for a pint after exploring the Kings Road, settling in for a Sunday roast, or enjoying cocktails and sharing plates with friends, The Chalk offers something for every occasion. With two floors of beautifully designed space, it’s the perfect setting to relax, connect, and savour the best of British hospitality.

At The Chalk Freehouse in Chelsea, we’re proud to bring together the best of food, drink and atmosphere. Join us in London’s most stylish neighbourhood and discover why The Chalk is fast becoming one of Chelsea’s favourite dining destinations.
